The IBEW Oath of Obligation and what it means to be a union member.
What It Means to Be a Union Member
When you took this oath, you joined something bigger than yourself. You promised to live by the Constitution and laws of the IBEW and your local. You committed to further the Brotherhood's purposes — better wages, safe conditions, dignity on the job, and solidarity with every brother and sister.
Being a union member means showing up for each other: supporting your local, following the rules of the road when you travel, standing up for your rights, and never sacrificing the interests of the IBEW for short-term gain. It means honoring the tramp card, respecting other locals, and giving the contractor an honest day's work.
Wherever you work, you represent the IBEW. Carry the oath with you. Remember why you joined, and help the next brother or sister do the same.
Fighting for fair compensation and benefits for every member, in every local, across every jurisdiction.
Every member has the right to a safe jobsite. The union exists to enforce that right.
The strength of the union is its members. When one of us stands up, all of us stand up.
You are not just labor. You are a skilled tradesperson with rights, and the IBEW exists to protect them.
