Reciprocity is organized by alliance (NERA), regional agreements, and states where licensing is handled locally.

NERA States

All reciprocate with each other

National Electrical Reciprocal Alliance — a journeyman license from any NERA state is recognized by every other NERA state.

Regional Agreements

Regional Compacts

Southeast Compact

Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee reciprocate among themselves.

Mid-Atlantic

Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, and DC have reciprocal agreements within the region.

Texas

Texas has reciprocity with Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and New Mexico.

Massachusetts / New Hampshire

Bilateral reciprocity agreement between Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

No Statewide License

Local License States

These states don't have a statewide journeyman license requirement, or licensing is handled at the local level. Always contact the local union hall for the area you're traveling to.

No statewide license required — licensing is handled at the city and county level. Check with the specific local you're traveling to for requirements.
